Governor David Ige joined the Hawai‘i State Commission on the Status of Women (HSCSW) and community organizations in recognizing the significance of closing the gender wage gap in Hawai‘i. On Tuesday, April 12, 2016, Gov. Ige recognized the importance of this issue in a ceremony that brought together current and former HSCSW Commissioners and staffers and members of the American Association of University Women (AAUW), Planned Parenthood of the Greater Northwest and Hawai‘i, and Business and Professional Women of Hawai‘i (BPW).

HSCSW has identified the gender wage gap in Hawai‘i as a priority advocacy and community education issue. While Equal Pay is only recognized once a year, HSCSW as well as those who participated in the ceremony, recognize that working women in Hawai‘i uniquely feel the effects of the gender wage gap every day.

In honor of the day and to continue education efforts, HSCSW handed out the below infographic on Equal Pay Day along with “Pay Day” candy bars to each legislator at the State Capitol.Equal Pay Day Flyer 2016_04-12-16
