Yoshida’s involvement with the Foster Grandparent Program began in 2009 after reading about it in the Maui News. Yoshida had previously been a school teach for 50 years before retiring in her early 70s. Despite pursuing water color painting, gardening and numerous church committees, Yoshida still missed being around children. So Yoshida applied to be a Foster Grandparent.

Yoshida volunteers up to 28 hours per week at Iao Preschool. She helps children with crafts, educational activities, and reading. Yoshida also talks with the children and shares herself in loving kupuna style. She exemplifies how the Foster Grandparent Program is a win-win for senior volunteers and children that fosters intergenerational relationships and leaves a lasting impression.

We’re proud of Rosalie Yoshida – a Volunteer Hero – and all of her fellow Foster Grandparent volunteers.
