The Department of Human Services Extends Eligibility in Response to Mailing Vendor’s Error

Posted on Jun 26, 2014 in NEWS

The Department of Human Services (DHS) is quickly responding upon now learning that its mailing vendor, Cardinal Mailing Services, did not mail 4,582 Med-QUEST eligibility renewal packages in May. As a result of DHS’ immediate response, no individual will have an interruption to his or her health insurance coverage stemming from the mailing error.

A letter will be mailed on June 27, 2014 to all affected individuals informing them that their eligibility will be extended through August 31, 2014. DHS will resend eligibility renewal packages to these individuals in early July, and will make a redetermination of continued eligibility based on the returned completed forms.

Many affected individuals have already contacted DHS and have had their eligibility renewal prioritized and processed.
As a result of the mailing error individuals were not able to complete and return their eligibility renewal forms. They were subsequently sent a notice that their eligibility would end June 30, 2014 because they “Did not return eligibility form”.
DHS sincerely regrets the inconvenience and concern this has caused our medical assistance beneficiaries.
