Kaunoa Senior Services provides opportunities for seniors to learn and grow through a variety of ongoing programs through Maui County. It is a division of Maui County’s Department of Housing and Human Concerns.

Among the programs Kaunoa offers is the Retired & Senior Volunteer Program. RSVP, as it is called, provides opportunities for the community to benefit from senior volunteers’ expertise and services while helping seniors remain active in their communities. RSVP is part of the National Senior Service Corps, which also includes the Department of Human Services Maui Adult Protective and Community Services Branch’s (APCSB) Foster Grandparent and Senior Companion programs. RSVP and APCSB often work closely together.

Mayors and county officials across the country and state increasingly turn to the national service as a cost-effective strategy to address local challenges. AmeriCorps and Senior Corps programs, part of the national service, have a positive and lasting impact on those who participate and the cities and counties they serve. Many programs through Kaunoa and the Adult Protective and Community Services Branch are part of the national service, Senior Corps.

The proclamation was part of the fourth annual Mayor and County Recognition Day for National Service. Last year, 2,786 elected officials representing more than 150 million citizens participated in the annual recognition day. The initiative is led by the National League of Cities, National Association of Counties, Cities of Service and the Corporation for National and Community Services.
